Esparza made her debut in 2012 when she signed with Invicta FC. Invicta FC 2, 2012, saw Sarah Schneider be defeated by Esparza. Esparza got on the back of Schneider early with a heel hook and then attacked the Argentine. She managed to control her opponent's head, and then tried briefly to apply a rear-naked choke.

Carla Esparza has been a professional fighter since 2010. She is the UFC strawweight champion as well as the first Invicta FC strawweight champ. She is currently ranked #4 in UFC's women's strawweight rankings as of January 2021. After winning the Ultimate Fighter 20 women’s strawweight tournament, Esparza made her UFC debut.

She was unable to defend her title at Invicta FFC 6: Cyborg against Coenen II (2013).
Cyborg is the stronger fighter. Coenen can be aggressive and determined. Although both fighters used leg kicks in the opening round, Coenen could not stop Cyborg's relentless attack. Cyborg scored a second round takedown and landed numerous punches. Coenen tried to escape but the "Cyborg", managed to score a takedown and land several power punches to end the round.
Cyborg will be defending her featherweight title against Coenen. The Strikeforce featherweight champion, Cyborg, won their first TKO fight. Coenen comes into the bout with a two-fight winning streak. The winner will take on either Ayako or Carla Hamasaki.
She suffered nerve damage in 2007
Carla Esparza is able to return from nerve damage that she sustained in 2007 despite her injuries. Rose Namajunas defeated her to win the UFC strawweight title in May. She is expected to defend her title in November against Zhang Weili, the former champion. Recent updates on social media were posted by her regarding her fight camp.
Esparza went to hospital following the accident. There, she was diagnosed as having nerve damage. Although she was charged more than $30,000 in hospital, she resolved to continue fighting. Invicta FC 7 saw Maya Hamasaki fight her again. Claudia Gadelha defeated her later, but Gadelha suffered from stomach problems.

Rose Namajunas defeated her twice in title fights.
Rose Namajunas and Carla Esparza are both former women's lightweight champions and have faced each other in two title fights. Namajunas won the title in April and retained it in November. Although the fight was close, neither fighter managed to land a knockout. Esparza was awarded the official scorecard of 48-47.
Esparza was 3-3 in 29 previous fights for the title, but her victory against Virna Jandiroba April 2019 set the scene for a five-fight win streak. She went on to beat Yan Xiaonan in a COVID-quiet UFC APEX event in Las Vegas, finishing in under eight minutes. In June 2019, she retained her title with a knockout in the first round.
