Coach Tina Estrada and her San Jose State women's soccer team are on a roll. We will be discussing the recent success of the Spartans and Estrada’s journey. We also address the university's mental-health resources for student athletes.
Estrada's success
Estrada, who became assistant coach of the women's soccer program at San Jose State in 2017, has a similar pedigree to Hanson. She was an All American college soccer player. Estrada, who played in four NCAA tournaments, was a three-time All-WCC forward for Santa Clara. She was the NSCAA Assistant Coaches of the Year for 2015.
Estrada, a Fremont native, was awarded the Mountain West Tournament twice. She was also named National Assistant Coaches of the Year. She has coached Spartans to two NCAA Tournaments. Her teams have won five consecutive conference tournaments.

SJSU's recent successes
Numerous players have been responsible for recent success in women's soccer at SJSU. Most notably Dorthe Hoopius was named team's MVP. However, she will no longer be playing for the Spartans in 2018. Jamilecxth Becerra (sophomore) was named Mountain West Newcomer Award winner after scoring seven goals including five winning goals. Darriell Benjamin was also named MW defensive player-of-the-year and to the All-MW first-team.
The new Spartan facilities are also responsible for this success. Spartan Beach is a new addition to the campus. These two facilities are not the only additions to the campus. The Spartans also plan to open their Spartan Athletics Center next spring.
Coach Tina Estrada's career
Estrada served as interim head coaches for the San Jose State women's team soccer team for two months. Estrada has been a Spartans assistant since 2004 and most recently was an Associate Head Coach. Lauren Hanson left after eight seasons and she was resigned. Hanson had been the school's most successful coach.
Estrada was a stellar player at Santa Clara University. Estrada has been an assistant head coach and great assistant for many programs. Now, she is poised to become one of the most promising young head coaches in division one women's soccer. Estrada has a strong teaching ability, is extremely communicative, and has excellent leadership skills.

SJSU's mental healthcare resources for student athletes
There are several mental health resources available to SJSU student-athletes. Many resources are designed to address the athletes' individual needs. Support for Sport assists athletes in finding mental health referrals. They also help them talk about mental issues with their teammates. LGBTQ+ Support includes stories and perspectives on being out in sports. ULIFELINE has college mental health resources that are also helpful. Counseling Services offers student-athletes a self-help resource page. Health and Wellness Education provides a website that offers information on a range of mental health topics.
SJSU's Counseling and Psychological Services department provides quality services to students. The department examines each individual's entire self and aims to provide guidance and tools to help them become productive members of society. The third floor of Student Wellness Center houses the department, which offers counseling on a range of issues.
