Equal Pay for Women's Football

save women''s sports

A recent Seton Hall Sports Poll sponsored jointly by the Sharkey Institute (and the Stillman School of Business) found that 91 per cent of women believe women should receive equal compensation for playing soccer. While only 74% of male respondents agree. The same goes for professional sports. Only 59 percent agree with this sentiment, but 79 percent of women think equal pay should be the norm. While this is definitely a step in the right direction, it still needs to be a reality.

Sandra Bullock

During the U.S. Women's World Cup, Sandra Bullock and other female sports stars called for equal pay for women. Even though they are not only the women in sport, many men are also below-paid. At the 2018 Women's World Cup, the Best Team Award went to US Women's National Team. The team was presented with the award by Bullock. The team is represented by Alex Morgan, who won the Best Female Athlete award.

The United States Women's National Soccer Team occupied the centre stage at 2019 ESPY Award. Bullock presented a Best Team Award (to Megan Rapinoe), the Golden Boot Award Winner of the FIFA Women's World Cup. Sandra Bullock wore monochrome black and accompanied Megan Rapinoe in a double-breasted jacket adorned with flapper-style flapper tassels.

It will take a while before the United States women’s national soccer team earns as much as its male counterparts. Equal pay for women's soccer is an important goal in the United States and other countries, but there are some steps that can be taken to get there. Cherita Ellens CEO of Women Employed, states that women earn approximately 80 cents per dollar for every dollar earned by men. Ellens feels confident that women's teams will one day achieve equal pay for equal labor. Ellens is hopeful that the players will join her in making this dream a reality.

Equal pay is subjective. If the men's team won 2015's World Cup, then the women's team should also have won it. But that doesn’t mean the women’s team shouldn’t be rewarded just as much as men’s. The women's teams have played in more games than their male counterparts. They have had a harder time keeping up. The World Cups prizes are no exception. All players may not be called up for all camps. How many games each team plays and injuries all play into who gets called up.

U.S. Soccer

Equal pay for men and women in soccer has reached a historic agreement between the USSF and soccer unions. The agreement stipulates that each team will be paid equally and share the World Cup money. The agreement states that men and woman will be paid equally at non World Cup tournaments. Women and men will earn the same amount of money at home and abroad, as long as they play the same number of games.

Cone, an ex-member of the women’s national team, declared in September that it was against his will to sign a contract with any other team that does not offer equal prize cash. A deal was reached on Tuesday, and the women's union expressed its support. The lawyers of the men's Union were present for the negotiations. The women players association congratulated all the players on their victories against gender discrimination. Women's soccer players' union leaders said they would continue to hold U.S. Soccer accountable for its decision.

The prize money is where there is the greatest pay gap in soccer. The prize money is the biggest pay gap in soccer. Men's teams compete to win nearly $440 millions at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Women compete for only $30 million. Five of the top women's players in soccer have recently filed a lawsuit seeking equal pay. These players say that their wages are four times as low as their male counterparts. Equal pay for women soccer players is long overdue. Why is it still a problem though?

There are many factors that explain the differences in salaries between men and women. Historically, women have had to compete against men to make ends meet. The differences in compensation are significant. The USSF has never been transparent with its employees about their salaries. This is especially true for women on its staff. Their recent public relations blitz reflects this. A USSF spokesperson stated to Reuters that the organization is committed to equal pay for all its players.
