This franchise was founded in 2006, before the 2006 season. It was known first as the Chicago Mercury. The team is now known as the Chicago Sky.

Despite being quiet during the WNBA drafts of the last few weeks, the Chicago Sky didn't speak up. But local players were taken to the top in the first round. The Dallas Wings selected Veronica Burton, a Northwestern guard, as their seventh overall pick. She averaged 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.4 assists and four steals per game last season, and she even reached double figures in the Big Ten tournament. Phoenix Mercury drafted Maya Dodson as Notre Dame forward in the same draft.
Trades
The Sky have made a few moves to strengthen their roster in this offseason. They made several trades to acquire draft picks and traded away players. Alaina coates was traded to Minnesota for Kaitlin Louis Samuelson, while Astou Nyour and Kaitlin Lou Samuelson were acquired from Dallas. They also traded their 16th and 2021 Draft picks, as well a 2022 second-rounder.

The Chicago Sky's vibrant fan base celebrates the team and strives for improvement in the city. Thousands of Sky fans gathered to celebrate the team's win in the 2015 WNBA championship. It was a touching community celebration that helped to build community spirit.
